Course Outline

Introduction

Data management involves the processes of storing and processing information. Within an enterprise environment, this practice takes on a much broader scope. The volume of data and the speed at which it must be processed, secured, shared, analyzed, and more are critical factors.

This course is designed for entry-level engineers. It explores the various technologies, tools, architectures, and design methodologies employed to manage large volumes of data. We examine traditional data storage methods, such as relational databases, alongside newer, less structured approaches.

Traditional file systems are compared to distributed file systems, and conventional server architectures are contrasted with clustered server architectures, all within the context of managing and processing big data across distributed systems.

Attendees will complete hands-on exercises and assessments, followed by coaching from the instructor and group discussions.

Major topics will include:

Hadoop

MS SQL

Oracle

Exadata

Data hub

NoSQL

NewSQL
