Training Skills

  • Delivery of a pre-prepared training session on a work-related topic of the delegate’s choice.

N.B. The duration of each delegate's training session will depend on the overall course length and the number of participants. A group of eight is considered ideal.

  • Comprehensive one-to-one and group feedback

Preparing a Training Session

  • Key questions for the trainer to address in advance:
    • Why was I selected to train?
    • Logistics: What, where, when, how, and for how long?
    • Understanding how these answers influence the structure of the training session
  • Structuring the content:
    • Research – achieving subject matter expertise
    • Organizing the content logically
    • Creating and utilizing complementary visual aids

Preparing the Trainer

  • The three fundamental communication tools for a trainer:
    • Verbal – selecting appropriate language and avoiding slang or jargon
    • Vocal – managing tone and avoiding distracting verbal habits or pauses
    • Visual – the presenter’s appearance, including attire, mannerisms, and presence
  • Rehearsing the session and obtaining honest feedback from a reliable source
  • Managing nervousness

Preparing the Environment

  • Room layouts – and the underlying messages they convey to attendees
  • Using the physical space to enhance the training experience
  • Ensuring the room is tidied up after the session

Evaluation

  • The importance of evaluation
  • Processes for gathering and utilizing participant feedback

Training Skills – Revisited

  • Delivery of another training session (following a suitable preparation period).

N.B. This may be the same presentation as in Module 1, refined based on detailed feedback.
